There was just a little something missing to the level design. However, that comparison was not flawless, as the maps were not sprawling enough to 100% justify it. In the past, the Resident Evil games (the classic ones), have been described as being similar-ish to metroidvania games in its level design, with its being sprawling and having unlockable shortcuts. This last part contributed a lot to making me love the police station. It's bigger and spookier, and there is more criss-crossing. It is improved on the original in every imaginable way. One of the reasons I love it so much is the design of the police station. I have played a lot of it since it came out, and I'm pretty sure when all is said and done, the game will end up in my top five games of all time. Like a lot of people here, I have been playing Resident Evil 2.
